Corcovado Hill is part of the Tijuca Atlantic Forest. On the way to its top is the Dona Marta belvedere, from where is possible to see the hub of Brazilian soccer, Maracanã, the famous Guanabara Bay and the beautiful Sugar Loaf. Getting on top of Corcovado Hill, besides the Christ the Redeemer, it is possible to admire breathtaking views of Copacabana, Ipanema, Leblon, Rodrigo de Freitas Lagoon and the Botanic Garden. Every year, over a million tourists visit the international famous Pão de Açúcar (Sugar Loaf Mountain), an iconic symbol of the city of Rio de Janeiro. Its name was given due to the to ressemblance to the traditional shape of a refined sugar loaf. The journey to the top is made in glass cable-cars. The first cable-car takes passengers to the top of Urca Hill, which rises 215 meters above sea level and offers spectacular views of the entire bay and its surrounding islands. At Urca Hill, passengers take the second cable-car to the top of Sugar Loaf, which rises 395 meters above sea level and offers a 360 degree view of the entire city including Botafogo and Copacabana Beaches, Corcovado Hill and Rio’s downtown. Founded in 1808, the Botanic Garden of Rio de Janeiro is one of the most important global research centres in the botanic area and conservation of biodiversity. Huge trees decked with orchids contrasting with giant water lilies, bromeliads, royal poincianas and tropical foliage, make that place a favorite hideaway for nature lovers and whoever is seeking peace and tranquillity. To start, guests first go to Tijuca Forest to visit Primatas’ Waterfall, the beautiful views of Chinese View, the Emperor’s table, Afonso Viseu Square and Cascatinha Waterfall. They continue the tour to Corcovado Hill, reaching the Christ the Reedemer and D. Marta belvedere. Descending through Cosme Velho and passing by Laranjeiras, Botafogo, they get to the Sugar Loaf Mountain for a visit and head to the Botanic Garden right after. |
