Full Day Ingapirca
The unique complex of Ingapirca (= Inca wall) belongs to best-preserved pre-Columbian monuments in Ecuador. Local indigenous people have made a living of selling handicrafts and snacks at the entrance, and pose willingly with their lamas.
In weekends you can also visit one of nearby street markets where authentic Cañari people gather. The rural village of Ingapirca is located in the charming countryside north of Cuenca (about 90km/55mi/2hrs).
You will explore the complex. The elliptical Inca Temple of the Sun is eye catcher of the high located archaeological site of Ingapirca (=Inca wall). It is a true masterpiece, though modest in comparison to monuments in their native Cuzco area (Peru); hence Inca occupation of Cañar lasted only a few decades. Admire the fine Imperial Inca-characteristics such as inclined walls, trapezoid entrances, niches and channels. There also remain fundaments of storehouses and a part of the famous Royal Inca road (UNESCO Cultural World Heritage site).
